Dance Mom Central: A Resource Hub Rebuilt as an AI-Native Platform

Dance Mom Central is a fast-growing resource hub for the competitive dance community — helping dance parents discover competitions, navigate the season, and find the studios and resources they need in one place. As its audience grew, the site's WordPress foundation became the ceiling: on how it could look, and on how efficiently its owner could keep it current.

Drive Phase migrated the entire platform off WordPress onto a custom-coded stack built around three layers — a bespoke Experience, an owned data Foundation, and an AI-powered Intelligence layer that lets the owner run and expand the site with Claude.

WordPress had taken Dance Mom Central as far as it could. Design was boxed in by themes and page builders — every change meant fighting the template instead of expressing the brand. And keeping the site current was relentless manual work: every new competition, studio, and resource had to be entered and formatted by hand, while a tangle of plugins made that data hard to reuse or automate.

That created a ceiling on both fronts. The owner couldn't make the site look the way she envisioned, and the effort of maintaining it scaled linearly with its growth — more competitions simply meant more hours, with no way to gain leverage.

Experience — limitless design through custom code

We rebuilt the front end from scratch in Astro. Replacing WordPress themes with a fully custom-coded site removed every design constraint — layout, interaction, and brand expression are now bounded by intent, not by a template. The owner gained total control over how Dance Mom Central looks and feels, on a fast, modern site that can evolve as the brand does.

Foundation — owned, structured data

Beneath the design we built a clean data foundation: Sanity as the content backbone and Supabase as the structured database for competitions and resources. In place of WordPress's plugin sprawl, the site now runs on owned, well-modeled data that's easy to query, reuse, and build on — and that the owner controls outright, with no platform lock-in.

Intelligence — an owner who operates with AI

Because that data lives in a clean Sanity and Supabase foundation, the owner can connect Claude directly to it. Adding new competitions and creating content — once slow, manual data entry — became an AI-assisted workflow: she hands Claude the source information and has structured entries and content drafted and added to the platform in a fraction of the time, exponentially improving how efficiently the site grows.
